Our Story

“We should have in our homes something better suited to our needs and more expressive of our character.”

- Gustav Stickley

We are romantics at heart: we shed tears the first time we had to cut down one of our trees due to pine beetle kill in Colorado. This intimate connection with nature and wood in particular goes back a long way for both of us including climbing trees (and falling out of them) and building my first shelf that sits in my parents’ bedroom today.

While mass production has made utilitarian pieces affordable and accessible to families around the globe, we lament the volume of waste produced and the detachment to quality that has accompanied that path. Working wood - not machining it - is a catharsis for us and contributes to the legacy of sustainability, honor, and respect we seek to leave for our environment and each other.

Our shop is based in Denver, Colorado, at the base of the Rocky Mountains. Traditional hand tools alongside our power tools for milling wood, emphasize a direct connection with each piece we produce - the texture, aromas and sounds for producing each piece in our shop are carried into your home.

This direct relationship with wood and the craftsmen who work the pieces in your home can often be taken for granted. Along with many other woodworkers around the world, we are aware that certain woods are now a diminishing resource. 10% of our profits are returned to preservation efforts for the world’s rainforests and replanting native hardwoods, which are becoming rarer each year.

We ask that you come alongside us in taking the steps necessary to preserve this precious raw material, including investing in pieces that will be passed down to future generations.

Cheers!
